Tattersall Farm Sheep Dog Trial
NEBCA/USBCHA Novice Trial on September 10 & 11, 2022 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free Admission/Donations Accepted Rain or Shine This event will feature top New England herding dogs and their handlers from Maine to New Jersey guiding sheep through a set course on the farm grounds. The sheep dog trial format: Handlers and their dogs test their partnership and skills while steering three or four sheep around a timed course that represents the demands and needs of everyday farm work. The course consists of a gather/outrun, lift, fetch, drive and pen. Each run will be judged for quality stockmanship, accuracy/most direct line and obstacle completion. The sheep will be placed 100 to 300 yards from the handler. The dog will bring the sheep to the handler and expected to guide the sheep around a course as quietly and consistently as possible. Each run will be judged. The handlers volunteer to take turns explaining what goes on during and between runs over a public address system. The handlers understand their role in promoting and educating individuals about working herding dogs and readily interact with the spectators answering their individual questions. While watching the trial and during the lunch break, spectators will be invited to explore the grounds and walk the trails at Tattersall Farm. The Farm was owned and operated by the Tattersall Family for a substantial portion of the twentieth century. The surviving family member, Mary Alice Tattersall, died in 1999, and in her will she entrusted her family’s 150-acre farm to the City of Haverhill. The Farm has been maintained in as close to its original condition as possible. The Tattersall Farm Charitable Foundation Trust is obligated to preserve the Farm, to protect its wildlife and conservation interests. Trustees are also dedicated to informing and educating the community. The Farm offers nineteenth century plantings, working hayfields, rolling meadows, and wooded paths used for walking, jogging, and cross-country skiing. Due to conservation restrictions DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE PROPERTY unless registered for the trials. Any questions please feel free to contact Farms Contact Page - https://www.tattersallfarm.com/contact.html |

Tattersall Offers Nature Walks
On Sunday November - 5th 2 p.m. to 4p.m.
Come explore the beauty of Tattersall Farm, 542 North Broadway, Haverhill, on Sunday, November 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. to enjoy our wildflowers and shrubs as they prepare themselves for winter. We’ll focus on winter weeds, those hardy wildflowers whose persistent skeletons decorate the late season landscape, and deciduous shrubs that have lost their leaves. We’ll learn how to identify these plants and discuss how they have been used historically by native Americans, colonials and modern folk. Walk will be led by naturalist Boot Boutwell. Boutwell teaches and speaks at the New England Flower Society and Massachusetts Audubon Society, Appalachian Mountain Club, Arlington Community Education, and numerous other organizations. Participants will experience the pleasure of taking a leisurely walk through the meadows and forests at the beautiful Tattersall Farm property and also learn some natural history and lore. A $5 donation is suggested.

Tattersall Offers June Nature Bird Walk
On Saturday July 22nd - 8 a.m. to 9:30
Audubon Bird Walk at Tattersall Farm with Dave Williams, Joppa Flats Education Center birding guide and Brookline Bird Club President.
In an hour and a half of roaming the Tattersall Farm Property, Dave Williams will introduce participants to the birds that have been nesting on the property, looking for the adults and any fledged young that are still begging to be fed. With Dave’s guidance, the group will check some of the nest boxes that have been used this summer by resident species. Any later broods of chicks that remain will be cataloged, and nests of birds that have fledged young will be identified and recorded. Dave will explain best management practices for nest boxes, and discuss how Mass Audubon is supporting birds that nest in fields around the state.
A $5 donation is suggested.
